How do I register?

Information about registration is circulated via email to all participants and posted on our website, or you can follow the link here to our TicketTailor registration page when registration opens.

What is the registration fee?

The registration fee is just $XX for all participants and attendees.

I live in a different timezone to FSNNA. Can I still participate?

FSNNA runs on an Eastern USA timezone, but anyone is welcome to participate. We ask that presenters indicate their timezone when sending a submission, and we make every effort to schedule panels in ways that promote good thematic fit without asking you to present in the middle of the night! Sometimes an early start/late finish is unavoidable however, and we appreciate your patience and collegiality.

Beyond live-time presentations, everybody who registers can participate asynchronously in the Discord channel or watch panel recordings for several weeks after the conference has ended.

How do I get onto the Discord?

Private Discord links will be sent out to all registered participants in advance of the conference. Registering early helps to avoid any delays in receiving a link.

It’s my first FSNNA conference, what should I expect?

Welcome! It is our hope that we have designed FSNNA in a way which feels friendly and inviting to new faces. We have multiple avenues for participation: attending live panels and keynote presentations on Zoom; viewing the poster presentations on Discord; engaging asynchronously with fellow participants on Discord; and participating in some of our many social events like speed-networking, the annual vid show, and trivia night.

For presenters, this is an opportunity to showcase your research findings and discuss works in progress with colleagues from all stages of their careers. At a conference like FSNNA, you can expect that most attendees will be relatively familiar with foundational fan studies literature and concepts, even if their areas of focus are different from your own, and so, depending on your research, this can be an exciting venue to focus on presenting your findings, rather than providing background or rehashing the core texts in our field. Given the virtual format, do your best to make sure you’re in a calm and quiet place, that you have a solid internet connection, and that you’ve set aside time when your family and colleagues know you will be working to get the most out of our live panels and presentations.

I’m not used to virtual conferences; what advice do you have for getting the most out of FSNNA?

While not every aspect of the physical conference can be replicated in discord (e.g., bumping into a former colleague in the hotel lobby), we are confident that those who put time and energy into FSNNA can get a lot out of the experience. In addition to watching or presenting on panels, you can make new friends and colleagues at our social events, reach out to the many publishers and senior scholars in attendance, and make connections for possible future conference panels or collaborative projects via our various chat channels.

Will my presentation be recorded?

Yes, we record our panel presentations to facilitate the participation and robust engagement of attendees from a wide range of timezones. The recordings are available only to registered attendees and will be taken offline permanently a few weeks after the conference ends.

Can I request a record/certificate of my participation?

Yes, you can. Please reach out to fsnna.conference@gmail.com after the conference has ended, and we will respond in due course.

How do I make sure that my poster/presentation is accessible?

In addition to following and checking your work against the pre-circulated accessibility guidelines, your work will be checked by a team of members from the FSNNA Organizing Committee, who will work with you on any edits you may need to make. We also host an annual poster-making Zoom workshop where you can drop by with any questions you may have.

I have an accessibility requirement I have not seen covered in this guidance; who should I talk to?

Please email us at fsnna.conference@gmail.com in advance of the conference, and we will make every effort to accommodate. Please note that we cannot guarantee accommodations for requests made less than one week in advance of the conference’s start.
