Intellect is excited to be partnering with the Fan Studies Network for their 2020 North America Virtual Conference.
Intellect is a fiercely independent academic publisher for scholars and practitioners teaching and researching in the arts, media and creative industries.
Intellect’s main fan studies journal is the Journal of Fandom Studies. The Journal of Fandom Studies seeks to offer scholars a dedicated, peer-reviewed publication that promotes current scholarship into the fields of fan and audience studies across a variety of media. We focus on critical exploration, within a wide range of disciplines and fan cultures, of issues surrounding production and consumption of popular media (including film, music, television, sports and gaming).
Other fan studies journals of interest may include: Horror Studies, European Journal of American Culture, Journal of European Popular Culture, Queer Studies in Media & Popular Culture and East Asian Journal of Popular Culture. Our full list of journals can be found here.
Intellect has a strong fan studies back-catalogue with 2019/20 titles including A Cultural History of the Disneyland Theme Parks: Middle Class Kingdoms, Superman: The Movie: The 40th Anniversary Interviews and Planet Cosplay: Costume Play, Identity and Global Fandom.
Intellect also has its Fan Phenomena book series which aims to address cult/fan culture within a specified gaze. Topics have ranged from mythic actors like Marilyn Monroe to the long-lasting television series Buffy The Vampire Slayer to film juggernauts like James Bond and Star Wars. The most recent book in the series is Fan Phenomena: Harry Potter and it is a must read for Potterheads interested in Harry Potter adaptations, conventions, gaming, fanfiction and more.
